The symposium was begun with the warm-welcome of the Rector, Dr. Saleh Al Shamrani. He briefly discussed to everyone the preparation made and arranged with the Quality Assurance Center (which has already changed its title as Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center) for the activities of the first semester’s last succeeding weeks. He said due to some of the policies and procedures not implemented properly, they came to have weekly workshop on Thursdays. He clarified that it will be free of commitment on these days to keep the time for the said workshop schedule continuously to the next semester. Furthermore, he said, the activities will be arranged as for the first two-weeks are the workshops in accordance to quality assurance standards for those policies and procedures which are not clear to anybody, the third week is for the division meetings and the fourth week will be the departments’ and college boards’ meetings.

It was followed by the respected Chairman Trustees Board, Prof. Abdullah Al Shammery who shared significant details in support to the Rector’s insights regarding quality assurance. First, he said the two-time quality assurance meeting in each semester should be treated as social gathering where everybody could learn especially the junior staffs to build their practice, direction and habits from their mentors. Second is to grab the opportunity to learn from some of the experts within and from outside kingdom who will be invited to give short courses for three days during the said quality assurance days in which he believes necessary for university management. And the last things he mentioned were the E-gate system which he encouraged everyone to spend enough time looking for its properties and advantages and familiarization of the quality standards of NCAAA especially the two standards relating to research and social community for them to help students to grow early as researchers and support them in creating presentation to the public to discover their abilities.

After these, Dr. Sarah Mubaraki, the Director of Admission and Registration for Female Students Affairs profoundly discussed some of the points she found with her team in the E-Register Program regarding encoding grades through academic programs. She emphasized that to avoid discrepancies in encoding grades in the system, it needs to have enough time in exploring the system and there should be coordination between the contributors and course directors in confirmation and reviewing the grades before directly entering to the system. However, she assured that her team are in support to give assistance to anyone. There were questions raised from the colleagues after her discussion in which she answered fruitfully.

Prof. Mohammed Al-Omari, Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center Director begun with citing the reasons of doing accreditation. He said it serves as a stamp in doing a good product, a feedback that will help to improve the institution and its curriculum and programs, it grants that graduates will be successful in the future and it answers to all stakeholders starting with the student himself, the parents, employers, government and others for their assurance of producing a successful person/graduates.

After that, he explained deeply the Role of Faculty in the quality assurance. He said the NCAAA quality standards which were compressed from the previous eleven (11) to new eight (8) need more focus on governance, leadership and management for the institutional for them to see many details on these areas as well as the teaching and learning standards in the program’s quality, patternship and improvement and the characteristics of the graduates’ learning outcomes including students’ admission, records, guidelines, counseling and rights and responsibilities which need to be take care of and a big responsibility and effort for all his staff at the higher administration. And for the program are again the teaching and learning, the academic professional guidelines, and the need or requirements of market labor. And to give emphasis to the faculty role, he said that being an educator is not just giving a lecture but especially for many things like course specification, assessment, and communication and motivation of students including self-assessment. But then he said the main focus should be sticking on the learning outcomes by interactive teaching, self-learning environment and updating differences which will answer the reviewer of accreditation and will guarantee students’ that they are of high caliber and showing themselves as role model.

Moreover, he said assessment of students should also be done with variety and standardized method to know their ability in different angles and the course evaluation surveys from them to fill all the gaps to be improved for the success of accreditation and the course report which will show everybody’s effort to know the next actions to be done. Questions from the colleagues were raised as well which were answered by the Trustees Board Chairman and the Rector excellently.

Then, the valuable conclusion was given as well by the Trustees Board Chairman and the Rector ended the symposium with thanksgiving to everyone.
