The 1st Functional and Esthetic Crown Lengthening” workshop was conducted last Saturday, October 1, 2022, held at Riyadh Elm University (REU), An Namuthajiyah Campus with distinguished speakers Dr. Rakan Shaheen and Dr. Ahmed Tawfiq. The course accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties with 6 CME hours. It was attended by 28 participants with 15 female and 13 male, among the attendees were dentists, interns, and students, and most of them were from REU University, while the rest were from other universities, MOH, and private institutions.

The workshop aims to provide training to general dental practitioners and senior dental students on knowledge and skills in mastering functional and esthetic crown lengthening. It is designed for a full-day scientific activity of didactic and hands-on practical sessions with a comprehensive course covering surgical crown lengthening techniques on sheep jaws and different suturing techniques for functional and esthetic crown lengthening. The morning session was lectures and the afternoon session was hands-activity at the Phantom Lab supervised by five (5) supervisors, Dr. Rakan Shaheen. Dr.Ahmed Tawfiq, Dr. Sultan Aldughar, Dr. Moath AlQarni, and Dr.Saden Aljaber.

Moreover, the course was really engaging aside from the hands-on activities. A quiz competition was given for assessing the learning outcome.  Participants’ feedback highlighted the outcome of the course which they expressed their appreciation for having had a well-detailed and comprehensive learning experience.  The course was ended with the certificates distribution to participants, instructors and the speakers, which CPD credit hours were submitted to the SCHS.
