Postgraduate Studies

The University administration in its Mission, Vision and Goals envisaged postgraduate education as a major contribution to higher education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Postgraduate programs include residency programs, graduate Programs (Master’s degree and clinical training) and continuing education programs.

Approval for a Master’s degree program and competency certification in a dental specialties was given by the Ministry of Education in 2008. It was also in 2008 that the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) approved the university as a training center for Saudi Specialty Certificates (Saudi Board) programs. Two Master’s degree programs in pharmacy were also approved by the Ministry of Education.
Consequently, in October 2009, four students were admitted as pioneer Postgraduate Education Students – three (3) in Periodontics and one (1) in Restorative Dentistry.

For the Saudi Specialty Certificate Programs, the university in 2010 had a total of eleven residents: two (2) in Restorative Dentistry, two (2) in Orthodontics, two (2) in Prosthodontics, three (3) in Endodontics and two (2) in Pediatric Dentistry.

Postgraduate programs are overseen by the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies and the Board of Postgraduate Studies. For Saudi Specialty Certificate Programs, Institutional Training Committee headed by the Designated Institutional official oversees these programs.

Postgraduate Studies Research

One of the goals of postgraduate studies is to participate and contribute to global research in different areas of the offered programs. Each postgraduate students in Master’s Programs is required to conduct research to fulfil the requirements of Master’s degree. Hundreds of research projects have been conducted, of which, many are published in peer-reviewed and high impact factor indexed journals.
